The Dar and Riad housing type exhibited in Marakesh, Morocco is unique for its ancient history and also for its uniqueness as urban fabric. Dating back to the 11th century, Dar and Riad housing is woven into the culture, and reflects many cultural values in its organization. Its longstanding use reflects the unchanging values of the people that have inhabited them, and lends to the feeling that the buildings are not only woven together but woven into the ground that they sit on. The study takes the forms of drawings and physical models, exploring the volume and interwoven relationships between the Dar riad and the site and within the housing type itself.
